Southfields cabs from up the hill
Southfields is a short drive south of Putney, down Wimbledon Park Road or along Merton Road. We pick up across the Grid, the neat block of Edwardian terraces between the station and Wandsworth, as well as from Replingham Road's shops and the streets that run down to Wimbledon Park.
Tennis fortnight
For two weeks every summer, Southfields becomes the gateway to the Wimbledon Championships. The District line station fills with fans, and the roads near the All England Club and the queue in Wimbledon Park get very busy. If you need a car during the tennis, book well ahead and tell us, so we can agree a pickup point away from the road closures. Visitors staying in central London can use our hotel transfer taxi.
Southfields to the airports
From Southfields, Gatwick is around 45 to 60 minutes away heading south, and Heathrow around 35 to 50 minutes west. Early starts are no problem, as we take bookings around the clock.
Everyday journeys
Families on the Grid use our school run taxi for regular drop-offs, and the District line makes Southfields a handy pickup point for trips home from Wimbledon or Earlsfield.
Wimbledon Park and the lake
Wimbledon Park, at the bottom of the hill from Southfields, has a large lake, tennis courts and open space that's busy at weekends. During the Championships, part of it becomes the queue for tickets, with fans camping overnight for a chance to get in. Drop-offs work best from Wimbledon Park Road or Home Park Road, depending on road closures.
From Southfields into town
The District line runs from Southfields to Earl's Court and on into central London, which suits light travellers. With luggage, a taxi to Victoria or Paddington avoids the stairs and changes, and late at night it's often the quickest way home.
Everyday trips from Southfields
Southfields is a family area, and most of our journeys here are everyday ones: a lift to Southside in Wandsworth for shopping, a trip to St George's Hospital in Tooting, a run to Putney for a train or a ride home from a party. King George's Park runs along the edge of the area towards Wandsworth, with sports pitches and a playground that are busy at weekends. The steep slope of Wimbledon Park Road and the narrow streets of the Grid can make parking hard, so a cab that drops you at the door and comes back at a set time saves a lot of circling. For regular trips, ask about setting up a fixed booking.
After the last train
The District line's last trains to Southfields leave central London around midnight, and missing one means a long night bus home. A pre-booked taxi from Earl's Court, Victoria or the West End brings you straight back to the Grid. If you think you'll be late, book the pickup in advance and call us if your plans change.
